Desk Report,
Bangladesh understands that it’s not just about hitting sixes, it also has to play ‘smart cricket’
Liton Das sat in the press conference room. He made sure that his hat was in order. The tough fight of the Asia Cup was ahead of him. But the press conference that was going to start a little later was not going to be easy. So he prepared well for the match here too.
Bangladesh understands that it’s not just about hitting sixes, it also has to play ‘smart cricket’
In the next ten-minute press conference, Liton had to talk about his goals in the Asia Cup, old memories of the loss to Hong Kong, and various other topics. The topic of hitting sixes by Bangladesh also came up. Bangladesh has been hitting a lot of sixes recently.
So far this year, Bangladesh has hit 109 sixes in 14 matches in T20Is, ranking third among Test-playing nations. Among Bangladeshi players, Parvez Hossain and Tanjid Hasan have topped the list of those who hit the most sixes in a calendar year. Tanjid has surpassed Parvez to top the list in the series against the Netherlands, hitting 21 sixes.
After hitting a lot of sixes before the Asia Cup, the Bangladesh captain is looking for something different now that he has come on the big stage. Many people think of the T20 version as a game of muscle, a game of strength. Just before the Asia Cup, Bangladesh also brought in Julian Wood, a specialist coach in power hitting.
However, Liton says that they want to play smart cricket, not just hitting sixes in the Asia Cup. Liton said at a press conference in Abu Dhabi yesterday, ‘When you hit big sixes in the T20 version, it is a plus point. You can come out of any danger or situation.’
Then Liton added, ‘But at the same time, you have to understand that hitting sixes in every match is not enough. You have to understand how many boundaries there are, what kind of opponent you are. I think we have to play smart cricket, rather than just trying to hit sixes.’
